“I wrote this story so people could find God -- without having to go through a lifetime of searching.”
- by Loren Biser
Nothing I have written in 20 years has aroused such emotion as The Lion's Story.
After I wrote it, I buried it in my files and forgot about it. I thought people would think I was insane. I didn't even show it to close friends for fear of riducule.
“Thank you for writing the most beautiful story I ever read.”
I finally showed it to one popular writer who said, “This is the worst thing you have ever written. Throw it out!” Even when I had the courage to publish it, I printed the first version under a pen name. The title was, “I will carry you forever.”
I quickly learned, this magical story could touch people in the most profound ways. One woman called me from Canada and said, “I have been crying for three days.”
I have seen women cry in front of me as they read it.
Even a hardened, religious fanatic was moved to tears. I said to myself, there are not too many stories on earth that have that power.
I found the ones most affected were sincere, pure-hearted people. Which only proves you need a child's heart to enter heaven.
-- From the Heart of a Lion --
This charming tale contains many eternal truths which only a lion could reveal. What does a lion know -- you ask?
Can you see in the dark? Can you smell beautiful flowers ten miles away? Can you live for one second at a time and not worry about tomorrow? Can you live in harmony with nature?
Why is the lion KING? Because he has no fear.
A great philosopher and lion-lover, Dr. Paul Eck, once told me this about lions. “Why is the lion king? Because he has no fear. He's got power and he knows it. No one has to tell him; he was born with it. That's why God put lions on earth -- to show people where power comes from.”
“Don't live your life as a fearful, frightened rabbit. Be a strong, courageous Lion!”
The last words Paul ever told me was an answer to my question: What is true love?
The lion intuitively knows it has to keep picking up its little cubs and moving them from one place to another to protect them from danger. But it would give up its life willingly, it knows how to preserve this life at all cost – that's what true love is.
